Crosman has been a trusted name in rifles for almost half a century and the new models incorporate air rifle technology with traditional and solid construction. The Crosman Pumpmaster 760 model released about one year ago is a rifle that is primarily designed and used for target practice. Depending on the pellet weight and type, it can be effectively used as a pest control devise or for small game hunting, but the standard BBs do not offer the range and velocity to warrant the 760 being named as a hunting rifle.

The Crosman Pumpmaster 760 uses standard .177 caliber steel BBs or composite pellets and has a reservoir holding up to 200 rounds of ammunition. The internal magazine can be preloaded with 18 BBs or pellets. The maximum average fires per second for the Crosman Pumpmaster are 625 FPS. An option clip that holds up to five additional pellets is included and can fire up to 600 FPS.

The smooth barrel is 33 ½ inches long and is fairly lightweight, at just under three pounds. This makes the Crosman Pumpmaster 760 a favorite choice for outdoors men and recreational users who walk a lot during hunting or target practice expeditions. In addition to the light weight, the Crosman Pumpmaster 760 is also easy to use and beginners can very quickly master the technique. The air rifle requires manual pumping, anywhere between three and ten times per shot. The maximum velocity will vary depending on the number of pumps, more pumps equal a more powerful shot.

Safety and Operation

Users of any type of gun are encouraged and expected to use protective measures. Guns are not toys and are never meant to be used without adult supervision. Protective eye equipment and possibly ear plugs are recommended with each use.

The Crosman Pumpmaster 760 is known to have a shooting range of up to 500 feet, so spectators should steer clear during target practice. Likewise, pets and children should not be near the target area during shooting.

Many accidents occur from misuse, so owners are encouraged to fully review the owner’s manual before engaging in use. BBs and pellets should be loaded properly, which requires using the “On Safe” and “Off Safe” features during loading and unloading. Air guns have different velocity and accuracy ranges based on model and user experience.

Some general rules of responsible gun use include where to fire and where not to fire. Obviously, only certified shooting ranges provide a safe place to fire a gun indoors. Air guns are also not to be used to shoot near or into water. The BBs or pellets could easily ricochet and bounce off the water and cause injury. Likewise, the guns should not be fired directly into a hard surface such as a brick wall. This can be a particularly dangerous circumstance, especially if the shots are fired at close range. The resulting bounce back could cause property damage or bodily harm. The Crosman Pumpmaster 760 is a well constructed air gun that will provide many years of pleasure and enjoyment if used properly and safely.  If you find this review helpful please share it.
